Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
