Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
