Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low provides an amazing collection of betting possibilities and because you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
