NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
