Online High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Emelia on June 24th, 2025
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
