by Emelia on October 7th, 2024

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
