Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
