Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
