Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
