Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
