Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The real advancement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
