Stu Ungar is regarded by many to the very best NL Holdem Poker player ever.

The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and began playing poker prior to becomming a teenager.

The young bettor started out playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his 1st gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the small poker genius had become a professional and dropped out of school.

In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.

The fast speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting greats such as Joe Namath and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a real talent for betting poker but regardless of his achievements in Texas hold em poker, he preferred wagering gin.

Stu once said that there may some day be a far better NL Texas holdem player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.

In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the best Hold’em Poker gamblers in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Extraordinarily it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.

The subsequent year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by effectively defending his crown. And in 1997 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also battled with substance abuse and a year following winning his 3rd title Stu died in his hotel room. According to doctors, he had passed away from a heart attack which was triggered by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had began with practically nothing except his skill and talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire several times over.
