The Background of Poker Chips

Gaming chips have been made from a varied range of materials in an almost infinite assortment of styles since the creation of betting and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most common materials employed at this time in the manufacture of new poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the primary of the group, have been made in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker players seemed to use any small valuable item imaginable. Early poker players occasionally used rough gold pieces as well as chips – mainly made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features started to play a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with slits to keep them neatly stacked with each other.

There is little or no debate that poker has increased steadily in universal appeal since its beginnings in the 1800s. With the explosive increase of online gaming and specialty television shows, community appeal in poker has accelerated more rapidly than ever before. Most folks are first introduced to poker by television showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and most will wager on their 1st hands on the web. Despite net poker’s rise, not much replaces the feeling of holding weighty clay poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
